Pros: Don't have to keep up with homework on a regular basis. Just make sure you finish before he checks it.
Cons: So much extra homework that you wouldn't normally have in classes.
Doug is such an awesome teacher! I recommend having him especially if you're a beginner. He is understanding of how hard it is to learn a new language and is always willing to grade easier and be lenient! Overall, a good class and great professor.

DOUG IS AMAZING! He's probably one of the BEST professors at MSU! He really wants his students to learn the material and improve their skills. He takes forever to get grades back to you, but the exams are fair, as long as you know the material. He's totally fine about students asking him questions and talking to him about the class. SUCH a nice guy& a great professor. GET HIM if you can! :)

Doug was awesome!! He really wants you to learn the material and he is soo helpful. He really likes to get to know his students too. SPN 250 is hard but its doable with Doug. Take this class with him!! The only reason he doesnt get a 4.0 from me is because he takes FOREVER to grade things. I have no idea what my grade is in this class because of that. so if you can get over that, you will love Doug.

Doug is the best professor I've had at MSU thus far. He actually made me seriously consider a double major in Spanish. He knows his stuff so well and knows how to instill it in the minds of his students. He really cares about each of his students in an individual personal way and his very sensitive to everyone's needs. I'd give anything to have him again and for every Spanish class I have to take until I graduate. If you're reading this because you're checking up on your professors for the upcoming semester, consider yourself very lucky to have Doug. I'm going to miss him SO much this semester :(

If there was a 5.0 rating, Doug would deserve that! He is awesome professor like everyone else has sad. He was one of my favorite professors at MSU! :-) He is very nice, outgoing, and friendly. He talks Spanish slowly and clear so you understand what he is saying. I would totally recommend him to anyone!

Take him if possible. Best teacher I have had since I have been here. He loves what he does and shows it every day. I have a 4.0 in this class right now because of his enthusiasm and willingness to help students in this class. Going from a 3.0 in 201 to a 4.0 in 202 is unusual so I highly encourage him!!!

Doug is just amazing! He's very funny and bubbly all the time! He definitely knows what he's teaching and he does teach very very well. He speaks very clearly so it really helps. His assignments are not that hard. You have weekly homework. Then every two chapter, there is an exam. There are a total of three exams. Oral part of it is a bit challenging but doable! The class is overall easy and very easy to pass if you attend all classes and participate.

Doug was an AMAZING professor!!!! He is friendly, approachable, and willing to work with students to help them understand. I went to office hours before every paper was due, and he literally fixed everything that was wrong with it. Even though the class was at 8am 4 days a week, it was worth it! Best professor I've had at MSU!!!

I couldn't agree more with what everyone has said! Doug is total-total-totalmente excellente!!! He spells everything out, all of the hard grammar stuff, and makes sure that everyone understands before he moves on. He clarifies with English, thank goodness, not like one of those professors who refuse to use anything but Spanish. This is the second semester that I've had him and I'm so thankful, because I haven't been able to learn Spanish from anyone else. My Spanish grade went up a whole grade point when I took SPN 201. But most of all, he's a great person, and he really cares about all of his students personally. If you're in a tough spot, he's always understanding (even about tests). Really funny and a great professor to wake you up and put you in a good mood in the morning. He made us all food for breakfast once too! Que bueno!

It's a shame that the rating scale only goes to 4! This is the best teacher I think I've ever had in my life... I had him at 8am and I've never seen any teacher so energetic in my life. He has a passion for teaching and it shows. I only got a C last semester with a different TA and now I'm pulling a B. He is so thorough that you don't need to study nearly as hard for the exams. I was really bummed to find out that he doesn't teach the higher level Spanish classes cause I would seriously center my whole schedule around this guy's class! Take him! you won't be disappointed.

Rasmussen is a great guy. Not only is he very interested in helping students understand, he also cares about being personable and talking and getting to know you. I wish his 201 class wasn't at 8 in the morning this semester or I definitely would have taken him again. TRY TO GET HIM AS YOUR TEACHER!!! :)

Doug is by far the best Spanish professor there is. There is no way that you could do bad if you show up for class, and he makes class interesting and engaging. He is an extremely nice guy, goes out of his way for his students, and will help you with ANYTHING you ask for. I wish I could have taken all my spanish with him. I will definitely miss his class. By far the best spanish TA you can get, TAKE spanish with this guy.

Probably the best professor I've had so far at MSU and an all-around great guy. He really makes sure the students know the material and even though he never sees the exams, (since they are all made by the Spanish department) he always seems to know what will be on them... even the tricky stuff. He is very thorough. There is easy homework due at the end of every week, participation, and a few papers that are all easy 100 percents and worth a good amount. My test scores averaged to be only an 85% and I got a 4.0 in the class. Doug is the man. I love him.

Doug is a great guy. He knows spanish up one side and down the other. Be careful when you take the class though: night class is only twice a week, but it's also twice as long (a little too long, if you ask me). He's a thorough teacher, and if you do the homework you'll know everything you need to know for the tests.

This class was, by far, my favorite class that I've taken so far. There was always a positive atmosphere in the classroom, which made attending class (I took it at 8 in the morning) and learning a whole lot easier. I appreciate the effort taken in keeping the class interesting and fun, and I would recommend it to anyone who was interested in spanish.

He made me consider spanish as my major! He is a great teacher, incredibly nice, very inventive in the way he teaches things and really does care about his students. He makes sure he knows you on a personal level and is always willing to help you get a good grade. His tests and quizzes were pretty easy since he was such a good teacher, I barely ever had to study since he enforced everything so well in class!

Great teacher. He really does care a lot about his students. He worries when someone isn't in class a few days. He's very understanding too when it comes to being late, or missing class. He also gives the opportunity to make up absences with extra assignments. YOu have to study for the exams, but he's so good with the "hands on " learning that you don't have to study too much because you remember a lot from the activities you do. The test averages haven't dropped below an 80% for our class. He is a great teacher to take, and he's very fair.

Awesome teacher. He really cares about his students and makes sure they understand everything. He's great at getting everyone in class involved in activities. The work load isn't bad at all and your listening skills in spanish will improve immensely. Anyone interested in Spanish should take this professor.
